JULY 21 SPEAKING EVENT

Do you establish credibility when presenting? Are you able to establish immediate rapport with your audience?

ASTD Mt. Diablo invites you for an evening of exploration of...

The 7 Essential Abilities of Effective Presenters

All effective presenters are effective in the same ways, and all ineffective presenters are ineffective in their own way. When presenting to adults our subject matter expertise is important, however knowing how to present, how to react to the unpredictability of participants is more important to making a difference in participant learning than just subject matter expertise. This session introduces a set of seven abilities for effective presenters grounded in cross-cultural and international nonverbal patterns of communication. We will explore how these patterns influence credibility, rapport, thinking and learning in a professional learning environment. You will leave seeing what you have always looked at in a way you have never seen before.

Learn the micro-skills of communication that can be used to establish and maintain credibility, approachability and rapport. Know which communication patterns can be used to address participant resistance, accelerate learning, and promote positive group dynamics. Like the nonverbal patterns revealed in the hit show Lie To Me, these patterns are universal in their applications and are effective with multi-cultural as well as international audiences.

Presenter: Kendall Zoller, President of Sierra Training Associates, Inc., provides presentations, keynotes, professional learning seminars, and coaching on nonverbal communicative intelligence (NCI), facilitation and presentation skills, leadership, and collaborative group development. His experience includes corporate training to senior executives and managers, sales teams, and front line personnel as well as university faculty and staff, police officers, and teachers across North America and Southeast Asia. His research centers on the influences of nonverbal patterns on rapport, thinking, and group dynamics. He is a contributing author of Bob Garmston's Presenter's Field Guide. Kendall is a National Academy for Science and Mathematics Education Leadership mentor and is a retired faculty member from CSU Sacramento.
